Carrefour pulled in sales of €1.2bn in 2011

Carrefour posted sales revenues of €1.2bn in 2011, which was similar to the sales posted in 2008 when it had 29 fewer stores in the market than in 2011.
In 2011, Carrefour opened 15 new outlets in Romania: 2 hypermarkets and 13 supermarkets.
Carrefour currently has 70 outlets in Romania. The company has invested over €100m in new outlets since 2008. The retailer has recently announced its intention to resume its expansion at a pace comparable to during the boom period in the Romanian retail market before 2008.
In 2011, only 2 out of the 14 modern retail chains in Romania did not expand at all. The rest of the players on the market invested almost €500m in the opening of some 150 stores in the country.
