In 2009 Christmas spending is expected to increase by 1.6% year on year to around PLN 1,553 (€375) per household in Poland despite the global economic crisis, according to
Rzeczpospolita. A recent report prepared by Deloitte suggests that 61% of Poles intend to spend as much on Christmas presents and food as they did last year. In
Central and Eastern Europe, Christmas spending will increase by 0.7% to €415 per household (with the exception of the Czechs, who intend to spend less on shopping than in 2008). Conversely, in Western Europe, Christmas spending will remain at the same level or decline. The average reduction will be 6.3%, and the Christmas budget is estimated to be €700. For Europe as a whole, Christmas spending will come to €600 per household, i.e. 3.8% less than the 2008 figure.
