2010-01-13
In November 2009
retail sales in Romania decreased by 9% year on year. The decline was due predominately to a significant year-on-year decline in the sales of fuel, and also of food and non-food products, according to the National Institute of Statistics (INS). The data do not include sales of cars.
In November sales of non-food products fell by 7.3% year on year, while sales of foodstuffs, beverages and tobacco fell by 4.7%.
From a month-on-month perspective, the declines in retail sales were less profound, dropping by just 0.2% in November. Sales of foodstuffs, beverages and tobacco decreased by 2.1% in November 2009 while those of non-food products fell by 1%.
