Sales of high-proof spirits flat in Hungary

For the twelve-month period ending at the end of November 2009, sales of spirits in Hungary amounted to HUF 70bn (€255.9m) , thus representing little change in comparison with one year earlier, according to Nielsen.
Sales of vodka and gin as well as bitter spirits rose during the period in question, while those of whisky, brandy, liqueurs and rum all declined.
Sales of vodka increased by 8% year on year and amounted to over HUF 11bn (€40.2m), while sales of gin increased by 15% to over HUF 5bn (€18.3m) during the same period. In volume terms, sales of vodka rose by 2%, while sales of gin increased by 9%. Over the period, the most significant decrease in sales in terms of value stated liqueur and brandy, 13% and 7% respectively.
