M.I.T.I. starts production in Hungary

Manifattura Italiana Tessuti Indemagliabili (M.I.T.I.), an Italian producer of high-quality fabrics, has recently introduced a plant in Szentgotthárd (Western Hungary), where it intends to expand its 40-strong workforce by a further 60 employees.
The Italian company has invested more than €2m in the refurbishment of the 4,000 m² production facility and has equipped it with state-of-the-art weaving machinery.
M.I.T.I. began operating Szentgotthárd about four months ago, once the process of transferring production from its Zogno, Italy plant had been completed. The company cited the lower costs of labour in Hungary as the main reason for the move.
M.I.T.I. is to embark on a new development scheme in Hungary that will not only boost capacity, but also expand its product portfolio. The company may also build its own manufacturing unit (it currently rents the facilities from Lurotex, the local unit of Italy’s Radici Group, which is also in the textile business).
