Czechs prefer specialised furniture and home accessories stores
2010-02-08
Over 65% of Czech households prefer to purchase furniture and home accessories from large-format specialised stores, according to research conducted by Gfk Incoma. Nevertheless, 75% of surveyed households are not loyal to one particular store or network and tend to shop at several stores. The most popular retailers, according to the research, include Asko, Ikea, Kika, Jysk, Sconto and Mobelix. One of the most important reasons (identified by 37% of those surveyed) behind a decision to shop at a particular store is its proximity to the shopper’s home and the convenience of the store’s location.
The majority of Czechs also compare prices at different stores before deciding where to purchase. However, price is not the main determining factor when it comes to purchases. Instead, design (identified by 31% of participants) and quality (33%) of products were identified as being most important. Over two-thirds of those surveyed said that they liked to peruse retailers’ catalogues and brochures.
Annual spending on furniture and home accessories per household in the Czech Republic is CZK 17,000 (€649.4). Of this sum, one-third is spent on accessories with the remaining two-thirds spent on furniture.
