Associated British Foods (AB Foods), a UK food concern, intends to begin the production of tea under the popular Twinings brand name in Poland, as Maciej Tomaszewski, AB Food Polska board member, told Central Europe Retail Update. A plant will be built in Swarzedz, in the Kostrzyn-Slubice Special Economic Zone (KSSSE), and 240 people will be employed there. The project is thought to be worth between PLN 150m (€37.3m) and PLN 190m (€47.3m). The plant will start its production in 2011.
The Swarzedz factory will be the concern’s second in Poland. AB Foods already produces instant foodstuffs in Nowa Sol. The first stage of the project, worth PLN 50m (€12.4m), at the latter plant has already been completed. At present, the factory’s workforce consists of 190 people, and 500 will eventually be employed there.
