Furniture production down by 16% in the Czech Republic in 2009

The value of furniture production in the Czech Republic declined in 2009 by 16% year on year to CZK 47.04bn (€1.8bn), according to data of the Association of Czech Furniture Manufacturers.
Over the period the furniture exports declined from CZK 44.43bn (€1.7bn) in 2008 to CZK 38.5bn (€1.5bn) last year. Decline was seen also in the imports, which fell by 12% and stood at CZK 22.5bn (€874m).
The sector currently employs 31,831 workers, down by 5,019 from a year earlier, and still more employees are expected to lose their jobs.
