Although the Hungarian DIY market contracted by one-fifth in 2009, the large retail chains operating on this market continue to plan further expansion, revealed Vilaggazdasag.
Of those DIY chains present in Hungary, Obi is to launch two new units in spring 2010, while Praktiker and Bauhaus plan one opening each in 2010.The DIY franchise chain Let’s do it also plans to expand in 2010, and another major market player, Baumax, is to open two new stores by the end of 2011.
In turn, the Hungarian DIY chain Ezermester Magyar Barkacs aims to focus on consolidating small DIY stores in order to better compete with the larger international chains. Since its foundation in October 2009, the chain has reached a store count of 34 and has deals signed with 23 suppliers.
