In 2010 approximately 195,000 m² of shopping area is expected to be launched in Slovakia, which is likely to bring new brands to the country, according to a forecast from CB Richard Ellis. By way of example, the launch of Bratislava’s Eurovea shopping centre in late March 2010 will see the entry of fashion retailers such as
Koton,
Pennyblack and
Debenhams, as well as
Burger King, to the Slovak market.
Some of the retailers set to enter Slovakia in 2010 have already announced their plans for further expansion. For example, the fashion retailer Koton, which currently operates over 280 stores in 30 countries, plans to open four more outlets in Slovakia in 2011: in Zilina, Nitra, Kosice and Bratislava.
Retail sales in Slovakia are forecast by the real estate consultancy, King Sturge, to increase by 3.7% in 2010.
