In 2009 sales of household chemicals declined by 2% year on year in value terms, compared to 2008, and totalled HUF 20bn (€74.3m), according to Nielsen Hungary. Prices of cleaning products rose by, on average, 20% in 2009
During the period in question, sales of general cleaning detergents amounted to HUF 12bn (€44.6m), whilst those of toilet cleaning supplies totalled HUF 5bn (€18.6m). Sales of window cleaning supplies comprised HUF 1bn (€3.7m).
As a proportion of total goods on sale, the share accounted for by private-label products was highest for kitchen tissues, reaching 52% in 2009. This was followed by general cleaning supplies, toilet paper category (18%), window cleaning, and floor polishing supplies (15% and 11% respectively).
