As of 1March 2010, InBev Romania, one of the largest brewers in the country, changed its name to Bergenbier, the name of the brewer’s best-selling and first-launched brand in Romania. At present, Bergenbier accounts for about half of the brewer’s annual sales in terms of both volume and value. Despite the name change, the brewer will retain both its organisational and business structure, as well as continue to produce the same range of products.
In December 2009 InBev sold all its operations in nine Central and Eastern European countries, including Romania, to the private investment fund CVC Capital Partners (see the news brief Beer Bergenbier enters CVC Capital Partners portfolio. Bergenbier is now the second-largest brand in the CVC portfolio after the Serbian brand Jelen Pivo. for further details on this story)
InBev entered Romania back in 1994. At present, the company operates two breweries in the country, in Ploiesti and Blaj. It employs 730 people and its products are distributed nationally.
The company will continue to produce the Bergenbier, Stella Artois, Beck’s, Lowenbrau and Noroc beer brands and will also continue to import the Belgian beers Leffe and Hoegaarden.
