The Romanian brown and white goods distributor Marelvi expects its sales revenues to increase by 5-10% and reach approximately €45m in 2010 following the recent agreement of a partnership deal with the retailer Carrefour. The company is also expecting newly launched brands to contribute some of the growth.
In 2009, Marelvi saw its sales revenues contracted by 8% year on year to €41m.
During the same period, the brown and white goods market shrank by 42% in comparison with 2008 and amounted to €1.4bn, according to data from GfK Romania. Demand for cheaper brands increased while the premium segment stagnated. However, the segment most affected was the mid-price segment, according to Marelvi’s representatives.
Marelvi distributes brands such as Arctic, Electrolux, Bosch, Ariston, Sony and LG in Romania. The company’s distribution network serves some 300 independent retailers in the country, including the Dedeman DIY store chain. Furthermore, Marelvi owns warehouses in Radauti, Cluj, Deva and Bucharest. Last year the company shut down two warehouses, in Gaesti and Galati, and opened one new one in Bucharest. Marelvi’s total investments in 2009 amounted to €500,000.
