In 2010 the hypermarket operator Cora Romania plans to open its sixth hypermarket in the country, in Drobeta Turnu Severin. This plan will require an investment of €22m.
The outlet is planned to have an area of 8,000 m², of which 4,000 m² will be trading area. Almost all of the products stocked (97%) are to be sourced from local suppliers.
Cora currently operates four hypermarkets in Romania, three of which are in Bucharest and one in Cluj-Napoca. Prior to the opening of the new unit in Drobeta Turnu Severin, Cora intends to launch its fifth hypermarket in Romania, in the Gold Plaza shopping centre in Baia Mare.
Cora Romania is part of the French-Belgian group Louis Delhaize. Its main competitors in the Romanian hypermarket segment are Carrefour, Real and Metro.
