Hypermarkets in Slovakia increasingly cut down on sales area
2010-07-06
One of the latest trends among hypermarkets in Slovakia is to decrease their sales area in a move to boost efficiency and save money paid on rents, according to Cushman & Wakefield. One of the hypermarket chains that implemented this strategy was Ahold, which refurbished 17 out f its 22 Hypernova outlets in Slovakia. Part of the process was decreasing their sales area to an average of 2,500 m², which is close to the area of a large supermarket. The largest Hypernova store in the country remains the outlet in the shopping centre Optima in Kosice. It is scheduled to closed in July 2010.
Another hypermarket chain that has been implementing this strategy in Slovakia is Tesco, which is expanding its network of the smaller Tesco Express stores in the country.
