Average wages in the retail sector in Slovakia to grow mildly this year

Several retail chains this year decided to increase the average salaries of their employees after one year or so of economic downturn. The retail chain COOP Jednota plans this year to increase the salaries of their staff by at least 5%, according to the retailer’s representatives. Another major retail chain, Tesco, intends to boost the salaries of their employees by an average of 3.5% this year.
Moreover, the retailer Ahold, which operates in Slovakia the hypermarkets Hypernova and the supermarkets Albert, plans to boost their staff’s wages by 2% this year. The furniture retailer Ikea Centre Slovensko has plans to increase the wages by 3%.
People working in the retail sector were paid for a long time less than €600 a month on average, according to Terno in Slovakia .
