Prices of food increased by 1.1% in June

In the first six months of 2010, food prices were 5.7% higher on average than in the same period of 2009. Compared to May 2010, prices increased by 0.8% in June. This increase was caused mainly by the 7% increase in the price of fresh fruit and vegetables. The prices of other food items decreased by 0.3%. Decreases in price were observed in the cases of cooking oil (5.6%), eggs (3.3%), sugar (2.7%), lard (2.3%) and coffee (2.1%).
When compared to June 2009, food prices have increased by 1.1% on average. The prices in categories such as: meat, sausages, cheese, fresh fruits and vegetables, increased the most by 3-6.5%. In turn, a decrease in prices was noted in the cases of sugar (11.3%), flour (10.7%), cooking oil (7.3%), baked goods (7.1%) and pork (6.2%).
