Bergenbier to spend over €5.5m on sponsorship in the next four years
2010-07-23
The brewery Bergenbier, owned by the investment fund CVC Capital Partners, signed a four-year sponsorship contract with the Romanian Football Professional League. The contract is estimated at some €4-5.5m. Previously, Bergenbier was the official sponsor of the Romanian national football team for 10 years until 2008 when the contract was snatched by the beer brand Ursus.
Manufacturer of the beer brands Bergenbier and Stella Artois, Bergenbier is the third-largest brewery in Romania. It registered a loss of €3.4m last year after a net profit of some €15m in 2008, according to the Romanian Trade Registry. In 2009 the company’s sales revenues dropped to RON 571m (€134.8m), a decrease of 10.4% in local currency and 22.2% in euros. Bergenbier was bought by CVC Capital Partners in Q4 2009 for about $2.23bn (€1.5bn).
