Czech farmers expand direct delivery of milk
2010-07-27
Having introduced milk vending machines to the market, Czech farmers developed a new business model to reach customers directly without having to cooperate with large retail networks and intermediaries,
Prague Post reported. In Plzen and its suburbs, milk trucks operated by the
Listany milk farm have appeared. This way, the farm sells fresh milk at about the price of milk in a supermarket. Depending on demand,
the farm is considering spreading the service to other towns and villages.
To compare, the first milk vending machines which appeared in country in October 2009 allowed farmers to charge almost twice as much as they were paid for milk by retail networks yet still offer products at lower or same prices as retailers. Currently there are around 200 such dispensers in the country.
