Ajka Kristaly, a cut glass maker and member of the Fotex Group, reported a HUF 900m (€3.13m) profit in the first half of 2010. The profit was 60% higher than in the corresponding period of the previous year. By way of comparison, the company ended 2009 with a loss.
The revenue rose by 66% in the first six months of 2010 to HUF 860m (€2.99m). The forecast for the whole year is HUF 2bn (€6.96m) sales revenues, against HUF 1.8bn (€6.4m) sales in 2009.
The company, which applied for bankruptcy protection last year, remains optimistic about the second half of 2010. It plans to hire 15 new staff by the end of the year for its plant located in Ajka (North Western Hungary), which will augment the plant’s 280 existing workers. The company emphasizes that it is servicing its debts and has reached agreements with creditors. Ajka Kristaly’s stock of orders has been increasing steadily during the last couple of months, assuring flawless operation for the upcoming four months.
