Prazdroj with highest sales in Czech food industry

Plzensky Prazdroj, the largest Czech brewery, noted the best sales in the Czech food and tobacco industry, of CZK 15.41bn (€597m), in 2009, according to the Czech Top 100. The beer producer overtook
Nowaco, the food distributor, and
Philip Morris, the tobacco company.
Prazdroj holds a nearly 50% share in the Czech beer market and it sold 7.55 million hl of beer last year, which is 4.5% less year on year. The decline corresponded with a 6% drop of the whole Czech brewery market, caused by the economic crisis, according to data of the Czech Beer and Malt Association (CSPS).
By comparison, the first hundred of the largest Czech companies in the food and tobacco sector noted an 8.5% drop in profit to CZK 194bn (€7.5bn) and a 15% drop in sales to CZK 2,070bn (€80.3bn) last year.
The Czech Top 100 association has been preparing annual rankings of the largest companies in the Czech Republic since 1994.
