The higher price of “bio” or organic products is the main reason why such products are not becoming more popular in Hungary, according to the latest market research conducted by Nielsen Hungary. As many as 84% of survey participants consider such products to be healthier than non-organic goods, 70% believe that bio products are produced without the use of pesticides. What is more, about 50% of those surveyed believe that such products are not genetically modified and 48% claim that the production of bio products does not harm the environment.
Forty-four percent of consumers choose such product in order to support small producers and one in ten consumers that took part in the survey buy these products because they are against modern agricultural production methods.
The market study concludes that the relatively low number of consumers currently buying bio products means that there is high potential for market growth in Hungary.
