Cigarettes consumption in the Czech Republic to decrease in 2010

The half year report of Philip Morris Czech Republic suggests that 2010 will be worse for cigarette producers as a result of VAT increase in January and excise taxes rise in February. According to the manufacturer, the Czech cigarettes market this year increased by 8.5% in January to March, however in the second quarter, after increase in taxes, it declined by nearly 6%. Consumption is expected to be lower also in the following months of the year.
Daily consumption of cigarettes in the Czech Republic in 2008 was at six per person daily and 2,107 cigarettes per person annually.
