The sports equipment retailer Decathlon opened its third store in Romania in mid-September 2010, in the city of Brasov. The store in Brasov has an area of 2,700 m². The investment in this outlet is estimated at about €4m, according to Ziarul Financiar. In November 2010, another Decathlon outlet is scheduled to open in the Era Shopping Park in Iasi, a retail park owned by the developer Omilos.
Decathlon entered the Romanian market more than a year ago with its first store (GLA of 3,200 m²) in the Militari Shopping Center in Bucharest. The second Decathlon outlet in Romania was opened in the Polus Shopping Center in Cluj-Napoca less than a month ago.
In 2009, after nine months on the Romanian market, Decathlon posted sales revenues of €9.1m. Decathlon’s main competitors in Romania are Hervis and Intersport.
