The German grocery retailer Fegro/Selgros Cash & Carry plans to open a Selgros hypermarket in Rostov-on-Don in May-June 2013. The first company-owned store in the city will operate with an area of 12,100 m2. The investment in the opening is estimated at RUB 1.3bn ($42.1m). Earlier, the company had announced an opening in March 2013, but the launch was delayed due to the failure of the main contractor, Rostovgorstroy, to complete the project in time.
Currently, Fegro/Selgros operates six hypermarkets in Russia: in Altufyevo, Kotelniki, Vnukovo (all three in Moscow Province), Biryulevo (Vologda Province), Ryazan, and Kazan. As Retail Update Russia reported on a previous occasion, the Kazan opening was the most recent and took place on 23 February. Thus, the store in Rostov-on-Don will become the company’s seventh outlet in the country.
