Most popular retail chains in Russia - July 2011

Pyaterochka was recognised as the most reputable and credible among the top five grocery retailers in Russia in 2010, according to the Global Reputation Index (GRI) consumer research. The chain was the highest rated for both of the GRI's two basic ingredients – recognition and credibility. Overall, the three top spots went to retail chains owned by the X5 Retail Group. The only international chain in the ranking was the French Auchan.

As Romir’s research shows, the GRI list of the top five grocery retailers in Russia was dominated by local players – Pyaterochka, Perekrestok, Kopeyka and Magnit. The first three are owned by the X5 Retail Group. The only foreign retailer, Auchan, took the last spot among the top five. This proves how hard the Russian retail market is to enter from the outside.
