Children’s products market in Russia again with double-digit growth in 2013

The children’s products market in Russia is one of the fastest growing segments of the Russian retail industry with a considerable potential. There is still much room for new market entrants, particularly in the segments of footwear and toys. The sector has been dominated by domestic retailers, however, new foreign retailers have been appearing on the market every year (such as Hamleys and Prenatal). The Russian children’s products market increased by 12.4%, reaching a double-digit, although slightly lower, growth rate in 2013. Last year marked the first in a while decline in the country’s birth rate; however, there was also a natural increase for the first time since 1990. In addition, by the end of 2012 economic conditions started to deteriorate and consumers became more cautious in their consumption.
