X5 Retail Group, a prominent Russia-based grocery retailer, announced in mid-August 2015 it had signed an agreement acquiring 104 Rosinka, Apelsin and Sberegayka stores, owned by Rosinka Group, in the country’s Voronezh, Oryol, Lipetsk, Kursk and Tambov Provinces. All the purchased outlets, totalling over 78,000 m2 of floor space and nearly 42,000 m2 of retail space, will be rebranded to Pyaterochka and refurbished in line with the chain’s new concept by the end of this year. The chain will seek to strengthen its cooperation with local suppliers in order to expand the fresh offering in the stores.
With the deal, the Pyaterochka discount chain will triple its store count in the Oryol Province as nearly half the outlets (51 units) acquired by X5 are located in this region. Meanwhile, 36 units are slated to become Pyaterochka stores in Voronezh Province.
Before the transaction, as of 31 July 2015, X5 had 260 Pyaterochka discounters in the aforementioned five regions, in addition to 12 Perekrestok supermarkets and five Karusel hypermarkets.
