New data published by the Federal State Statistics Service of the Russian Federation (Rosstat) show that Russia’s retail market has begun to recover from its protracted slump. In 2017, retail sales in Russia finally registered a growth again, rising by 1.2%. This came after a 4.6% y-o-y decline in 2016, and marks the first increase in three years. (The Russian retail market started to deteriorate already in 2014, mainly due to the sharp depreciation of the national currency, although it still grew by 2.4% that year.)
